Annette has been a leader in healthcare design for more than 40 years as founder and president of Aesthetics, Inc. She has been described as a practical visionary for her ability to combine explorative thought with strategic thinking focused upon implementation. She is a natural group leader and as a practitioner of Generative Space, Annette guides healthcare leadership in processes to create physical spaces that support not only their institutional mission and goals but improves the emotional level of satisfaction of patients, visitors and staff in working in and experiencing healthcare.
At Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, she led Aesthetics in the design and facilitation of their multi-year Arts Program. A pioneer of the field of arts and healthcare, she served as one of the original board members and president of the Society for the Arts in Healthcare. Annette is a Founding Board member, and currently the Treasurer of the National Organization for Arts in Health (NOAH). She coauthored "Transforming the Healthcare Experience through the Arts" with former Rady Children’s Hospital CEO, Blair Sadler, and authored numerous chapters in, most recently "Managing Arts Programs in Healthcare" edited by Patricia Dewey. She is one of the authors and editors of the newly released “Core Curriculum for Arts in Health Professionals.” Annette has received numerous awards including: Founders Award from HFSE, Lifetime Achievement in Arts in Healthcare, 1st place for Art in the Patient Environment from the Int'l Academy for Design and Health, Generative Space Award for St. Joseph Oakland Hospital, and in 2016 received the International Award for Valley Children’s Hospital.
