Cultivating ‘Generative Space’ in Healthcare Facilities – The Sustainable Means to Improve Health and Healthcare with the Environment

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 ~ 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm

EVIDENCE
How do you create an environment that improves medical outcomes, increases organizational effectiveness, and enhances the health of the overall community – not only when the project is first built, but progressively over time and across the transitions of personnel? The ‘Leading by Design’ project has spent the past six years investigating these questions. Today, there are five completed case studies of leading healthcare and design stakeholders with documented evidence to support a rigorous approach to cultivating a more ‘generative space’. Indeed, ‘Leading by Design’ consists of ten active stakeholder case studies in five countries applying this approach and measuring the results. This participatory workshop will include a brief background to this highly innovative project by Dr. Wayne Ruga; two detailed case studies by Annette Ridenour, of Aesthetics, Inc. and Tama Duffy Day, of Perkins+Will; and group projects by workshop participants. Participants will leave the workshop challenged, inspired, and equipped to lead a new generation in healthcare design.
