Accessible Bathroom Solution

One of the most important aspects of a hospital bathroom, a part from the basic function should be it's accessibility for all patients. Solutions provided up to this time were difficult and expensive to build, not very aesthetically pleasing, and very difficult to protect against failures.
Old Romans took care of all these problems for us 2000 years ago with their invention of linear drainage systems for spas, bathrooms and decks. This simple solution still works today in our modern world.
Take a long hard look at the bathroom floors designed and built today. They either look like a roller coaster where two round drain take water out of two drainage areas with a ridge in between or even worse when an inadequate drainage of the shower leaks water into the patient room floor.
There is only one bulletproof system and that is a two drain combination where a linear drain is a part of the design at a very specific place!
This whole topic revolves around going back to basics with proven waterproofing and drainage systems that we forgot about so many years ago. Physics and math still work as they did 2000 years ago and water has not changed direction so why did we?

Josef Erlebach, Quick Drain USA

Learn about Life Cycle Assessment, a recognized scientific method to determine which materials truly have a positive impact on the environment, as well as a positive impact on health and well being. We will explore wood myths and realities in addition to reviewing examples of modern, inspirational healing facilities that are as exceptional for the patient as they are for our planet.

Mitigating Infection Risk through Innovative Product Design

Mitigating the risk of hospital-acquired infections is a very significant area of concern. Both patients and healthcare workers alike can be exposed to the risk of contracting infections if appropriate infection control measures have not been implemented.  Corian itself meets critical 2006 healthcare facility standards for surfaces, but specifying the material itself should be 50% of your battle plan. You can do more! This lecture introduces two product design advents in Corian solid surface fabricated product.

1-Thermoline by Sterling Surfaces, with Corian. New from Europe in 2010, Thermoline will be the new standard in Corian solid surface healthcare worktops. See the product design features showcased that allow no safe harbor for surfaces contact with bacteria, fungus and viruses!
2-Corian Casework by Sterling Surfaces. Phillips Medical System’s Ambient Experience. This composite case history features Corian solid surface casework that include intuitively functional features leveraging the seamless, non porous nature of Corian to make quick work of preventative cleaning of environmental surfaces.

Flexible Space and Indoor-Outdoor Living in Healthcare

Learn how large opening glass walls create beautiful airy common areas and private apartments in extended care and retirement facilities. Studies confirm increased light, natural ventilation, and controlled access to outdoor areas contribute to healthier and happier residents and are a deciding factor for potential new residents. We will show how large opening glass walls can be incorporated into remodels or new building construction, often without impacting the planned footprint of the structure.
When clients are out touring facilities, make sure yours stands out from the dreary, clinical facilities so common in the industry by adding a light, bright, NanaWall.

Todd Kilstrom, Mid West Sales Manager, NanaWall

New Advances in Smoke Detection - Improved Response WITHOUT False Alarms

Advancements in smoke detection involve the use of multiple sensing elements in the form of a multi-criteria smoke detector. In such a device, the individual sensing elements work cooperatively to make the alarm decision based on consideration of multiple fire products. At the same time, the information is used to make the system more resistant to nuisance alarms. Further, each device may be configured to respond appropriately to the specific environment in each area of an installation. Learn how the newest product from System Sensor can solve the most challenging scenarios in health care and education facilities.
Speaker:
Todd Alford, Marketing Manager - Commercial Business Unit, System Sensor
