Facilities Planner, Indian Health Service
Deswood is a Healthcare Facilities Planner with the Indian Health Service (IHS). He has 23 years of experience in architecture, including a focus in healthcare projects on the Navajo Nation. His career reflects a balance of healthcare design, planning, project management, and construction administration. From the Navajo Nation, he obtained his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame in 1993. He served in the role of Medical Planner and Cultural Liaison for the design of the new Kayenta Health Center. His extensive participation in the design of the Kayenta facility was instrumental in its culturally sensitive design. He firmly believes that architecture, from the smallest dwellings to large scale civic facilities, should be culturally sustaining for Native Americans.
