Elsa Vazquez-Melendez, MD, is Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP). She is currently Principal Investigator on a study evaluating the benefits and feasibility of a reflective writing exercise for hospitalized patients. Her previous academic work has focused on end-of-life issues, pediatric asthma, and simulation-based learning. For her contributions to medical education, she has received the UICOMP Outstanding Teaching Award, Inpatient Faculty Award, and Golden Apple Award.
