David J. Vitka, R.A., M. Arch, M.B.A.Vice President Facility Planning, Design & ConstructionCatholic Health

 

David J. Vitka serves Catholic Health in the areas of strategic master facility planning, project design and construction and corporate real estate portfolio management for over 260 properties and 4.7 million square feet of space across the western New York region.  David has also been chairperson for the health system’s Green initiatives Sustainability steering committee since 2008. In 2014, David took on additional responsibilities for operations leadership of the health system’s 140,000 square foot Administrative & Regional Training Center headquarters campus where over 700 Catholic Health associates were co-located in the central business district of Buffalo, NY. David has served as the Vice President for Facility Planning, Design & Construction since 2002. 

The Catholic Health System is the virtual merger of four Catholic acute care hospitals, four nursing homes, three home health agencies and many outpatient and rehabilitation medicine sites.  Currently CHS employs over 10,000 associates and has annual operating revenues of over $1B.  David’s team is responsible for continual leadership of $40 - $100 million in capital projects, real estate joint ventures, acquisitions, dispositions and master facility planning activities. 

Prior to joining the Catholic Health System, David was the Director of Facility Planning, Design & Construction for KALEIDA Health, a New York-based five-hospital health system where he was responsible for master facility planning for the entire system.  David’s health care design and construction career was launched with his role as Hospital Architect / Project Manager at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, where he shepherded an extensive $20 million campus-wide expansion and renovation between the years of 1994 and 1999.  He obtained his architectural license in 1996.  David also held roles as a project engineer for McGrath & Associates (Healthcare General Contractors) in St. Louis, Missouri as well as an architectural designer at two architectural firms located in New Haven, Connecticut.

David received his architectural education at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. (B.S. Arch, 1986) and at Washington University in St. Louis (M. Arch, 1992).  He also received an M.B.A. in marketing and management at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut (December, 1987).            

Between 2011 and 2018, David completed more than 5 years of service as a member of the Village of Williamsville, NY Planning and Architectural Review Board, Form-based Zoning Code Revision and 2020 Community Master Plan and Signage Code Revision Committees.  As of 2019, he is also serving his sixth year on the Advisory Board of Directors for the Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Exposition, -an annual national conference committed to sharing best practice information in the field of healthcare facility planning, design and construction.
