Joseph W. Kryza BBA, MBA
Executive Director, UMHS Infrastructure and System Operation
Joseph W. Kryza, BBA, MBA is the Executive Director of Infrastructure Systems and Operations Support (ISO) for Medical Center Information Technology (MCIT). He received a Masters of Business Administration in Operations Management and an undergraduate degree in Business from the University of Michigan. In addition to his role as Executive Director of ISO, Mr. Kryza is a member of the CIO Executive Committee, Chair of the Technical Standards Committee, and he serves on numerous Health System and University committees.
In his role as Executive Director of ISO, Mr. Kryza manages operating yearly capital budgets totaling up to 30 million dollars and an operational budget of 15 million dollars. He manages a staff of over 140 IT professionals. He is responsible for ensuring that information technology infrastructure strategies meet the University of Michigan Health System's mission, values, and goals.
The UMHS network will move to over 75,000 IP network connections, of which only 25,000 connections are PC. A major effort has been dedicated to the enabling of the North Campus Research Center technology complex and the deployment of a New Data Center for UMHS. The Data Center project has resulted in a major operational consolidation of server/storage technologies.
The University of Michigan Health System comprises the U-M Medical School and its Faculty Group Practice, three U-M Hospitals, approximately 30 health centers, and more than 120 outpatient clinics. The Medical Center proudly maintains a long tradition of excellence in patient care, teaching, and research and as one of the best overall hospitals in the country from 2000 to 2010 by US News and World Reports magazine.
