Heather Spooner, MA, ATR-BC is an artist, art therapist and arts in health advocate who has incorporated art and art therapy in a variety of settings including healthcare facilities, museums, rehabilitation centers and community health. Prior to joining the Center for Arts in Medicine, Heather taught art therapy at the undergraduate level and spearheaded the formation of a statewide arts in health organization; Arts for Health Florida. Heather joined the University of Florida in 2014 as research scholar. Heather ‘s research focuses on the delivery of telehealth-based creative arts therapy. She facilitates art therapy services as part of the Rural Veterans’ Telerehabilitation Initiative Creative Arts Therapy Project at the Malcom Randall VA, which is the first telehealth-based creative arts therapy program to be funded by the VHA Office of Rural Health. Heather is a frequent speaker on topics related to the arts in health.
