Heather Taylor, Stacey Eckert, Ernest Frugé, Carol Herron: Characterizing Arts in Medicine Performances and the Impact on Audience Engagement and Mood at a Children’s Cancer Center
 
This study evaluates the impact of Arts in Medicine performances in a pediatric hematology/oncology clinic across four performance types (theater, dance, music, and control). Measures evaluated anxiety, fatigue, mood by parent and patient self-report and ratings of audience affect attention and engagement. Artists' interviews discussing their approach to performances will be discussed.

Dana Osterling, Silvia López Chavez: Measuring Health Outcomes: The Creative Arts Program at Boston Children's Hospital
 
This session will focus on methods used to collect data and share evidence indicating the positive impact of art and music at a pediatric medical facility in Boston, MA. Presenters will review findings of preliminary quality improvement research (and share evidence from peer-reviewed studies on Music Therapy and health), discuss current protocol for documenting and measuring impact, and lay out a vision for future research in the field.
